Deuteronomy 5 & 6; Psalm 43; Mark 14

Have you seen the movie ‘The Guardian’. We were hesitant to watch it, kind of ‘over’ Kevin Costner and yet my kids said you gotta see it….IT is a good movie. There is a scene early in the film where Kevin is saving a couple, he is a Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer. In the saving of the couple in an ocean that would scare the crap right out of you, the husband hits ‘survival mode’ and begins to overtake Costner who is in the process of saving, trying to save the guys wife. There is a struggle and the only thing Costner can do is subdue the husband with a punch to the face, well in that punch he goes unconscious and the only thing Costner can do then is save him first…..the wife starts to go down and he saves her ……not to tell the story but that moment is huge to the story. Of course the crowd is dumbfounded that the guy would go that ballistic to save himself and yet you wonder……What would kick in in me at that moment…what IS my survival tactic, how strong would it become?? Would I take other people under in order to survive?? My husband has taken this analogy even further and seen how he in his leadership style he has and watching him wrestle with this realization is amazing.
The whole God journey is filled with this stuff you know. To find out that EVERYTHING you have been thinking is subject to a enhanced vision, seeing how what we did and do is about us, about how we see God and that we are meant to BE about Him and that we need new eyes and hearts to see, really see Him. Talk about turning your world upside down…..and yet every step of the way we are reassured that He knew it, saw it in us and LOVED us anyway, sent His son to die because of it…..hard to accept and yet impossible to deny.

Duet. 6: 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

I don’t know about you but when I read that LOVE pops out…and it’s true the more I seek Him the more I find Him and the more I find Him the more I LOVE Him…..so I guess call me a seeker my whole life……believer yes and seeker always….and in the seeking He will do what He will do……??? hard to accept and yet impossible to deny.

Mark 14: 27 "You will all fall away," Jesus told them, "for it is written: " 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'
28 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee."
29 Peter declared, "Even if all fall away, I will not."
30 "Truly I tell you," Jesus answered, "today—yes, tonight—before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times." 31 But Peter insisted emphatically, "Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you." And all the others said the same.

And we know that he did, deny Him and I know that I have, do, will again……..or will I? But to say I won’t makes me Peter and whoa how foolish does Peter look….reclining with Jesus, denying he will and doing it, denying Jesus. How can we live our lives insulated from that denial, can we?? Right now in this moment I LOVE but IF something were to happen to ……would I? The whole being a seeker forever…..I have to, because as soon as I think I know anything…….I deny Him?? Whoa, the whole of it being a journey makes sense, again Larry Crabbs saying the ‘POINT of the journey is to want what God wants MORE than anything’…..and I think he’s right that won’t happen until we are in heaven…….moments of it but they are sooo shortlived and I am like Peter….hard to accept yet impossible to deny…

Well, perhaps I'll add this movie to my Netflix list! It sounds like a good one.

I love how you ended this post with the Larry Crabb quote, and you're right it won't happen here - it can't we are just to into ourselves even if we don't want to be. Even if our heart's desire is to put him first at all times in all things - it ain't gonna happen (and thankful, he knows that better than we do and does not hold it against us!!!)

We are wise if we never think we have attained...we are always susceptible to falling..never above temptation or failure...never safe..except in His arms...

I loved the Guardian and yes that ocean was menacing!!! So true becky, like Larry Crabb says we are to want what God wants more and more Mike Yaconelli loved to say *Jesus will ruin your life* He meant jesus would make it impossible to live a selfcentered life o for Him to *ruin* our lives in great ways so we become more and more like Him!!!
