From Christopher at Dances With God
BJK here are some questions for you, I’m looking forward to your answers:
I’m new to the Midwest, what is your most and least favorite thing about this region of the U.S.? Most favorite I guess as much as I rail against winter it is that we have 4 such distinct seasons. You can never get bored with one because another is baring down on you.
My least favorite the terrain without beach or mountain. Although yesterday on the bike traveling through Nebraska, Iowa and back into Missouri there is a certain beauty to the cornfields and something picturesque about a fading leaning red barn. But I do love the beach and equally well the majesty of the mountains.
Here’s a question that was posed to me in clinical pastoral education and now I pass it on to you: Hypothetically (of course), what would happen if you woke up one morning and had definitive proof that God is nonexistent? I guess I would be about ME, even MORE about me. I would go back to thinking I knew what people needed. I would stop battling my pride and seeking to be humble and try again to FIX people. I would work hard to be liked again or I would just like who I want to like and forget about everyone else. I would have to be around people and chameleon like become what the situation required of me to be comfortable. I would be constantly worried about dying and obsess about being worm food. This new dream to help Women I don’t know what would happen to it, it would change and maybe even disappear for my thinking about me so much and an unwillingness to be inconvenienced. I don’t think I would have an ounce of compassion. I think my fears would definitely be the driving force of my life and I would no longer be frozen by them but moving to protect myself always. I would find a job that really fulfilled me or find another job and work constantly to have enough money to give to my kids, after I have ENOUGH. I would obsess constantly about where I live now and be forever unhappy about it, because all my friends have bigger, newer, beautifully decorated homes. I would have to decide on my decorating style and be shopping all the time to furnish my home the way I wanted. Maybe what I mean is I would stop battling to NOT think these thoughts, they sure enough came quickly enough to mind....I am going to have to think more on this and wish I had something more but these are what immediately come to mind.
Are you more of a visual or audio person, or let me asked it this way: given a choice for a week to live without your sense of sight or hearing which one would you choose (I really like the pictures you find to illustrate your blog btw.)? If this was before getting definitive proof about God being nonexistent…..it would be hearing. The comfort of in the silence maybe hearing Him would be very attractive. So definitely visual…..I am more of a visual person.
What do you think of Dennis Kucinich? I had to google him and have to confess I don’t know nor really care. Politics is so not my thing, this election is scaring me because I am feeling a pull to acquaint myself with a lot of stuff I am not remotely interested in.
Do you believe in extra terrestrial life, bigfoot, and that a majority of politicians are honest? I don’t know……and I guess I really don’t care. Re: honesty…..I don’t believe many of us know how to BE honest, or maybe it’s just that I don’t know how. I guess I do believe there is something in politicians that wants to see change and there is a willingness in them to work for it. I can’t believe they are not a whole lot more visionary than the average person but what that has to do with honesty I don’t know…thus I guess my penchant for just ignoring the whole process…..

Those are my answers and here are the rules I agreed to:
1. If you are interested in being interviewed, leave me a comment saying “Interview me.”
2. I will respond by posting five questions for you. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog with a post containing your answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

The question about "definitive proof that God doesn't exist" is an interesting one. I'm kind of a newcomer to this faith thing. I really don't think I have much faith, at least in the classical sense. I believe God exists because He demonstrates His existence every day that I let him.

In other words, presenting me with definitive proof that God doesn't exist would be rather like handing me proof that air doesn't exist. I'm still breathing, so air is still here. Bumblebees have been definitively proven to be incapable of flight--great big body, little bitty wings--but they fly anyway. Is it faith? No. Simple engineering. The bee does things with air that the scientists missed in the first cut. Is the bee smarter than the scientists? No. It's made to manage air and fly.

Many times it's just hard for me to believe in breathing.

thanks for the answers; yes the God/existence one was only hypothetical... and besides it's all by faith anyhow. heres the link on how this question struck me

hi bjk,

Thanks for your message. I have had the wind knocked out of me several times this week and am learning, again, all that God can be to a person. He truly is enough. It is a joy and a rest to my soul to be able to see Him through your eyes, too.
